Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park

We're taking an adventure out to Shenandoah National Park for a weekend full of awesome peak-autumn season hikes, and to master some new skills in pitching a tent, camp cooking, and making s'mores. 

Date: Saturday to Sunday, November 8th to the 9th from 8:30am to 4:00pm.

This is open to Blossoms (ages 12-14) and advanced Buds (ages 9-11). We head down to Shenandoah National Park at 8:30am Saturday morning, and begin our day of hiking, activities and fun! Different hikes and activities will take place on the Sunday, built in with the drive back to drop-off at 4:00pm. Park fees are included in registration. 

Activities vary by day, age & group interest, all rooted in discovery, problem-solving, and creativity:

• Trail bingo, scavenger hunts, "build-a-story" time while we hike, animal charades and more!
• Arts & crafts including making nature collages, building beetle forts, and mud painting

Saturday, November 8th - 

8:30am // Location pick-up to start

8:30am-11:00am // Arrive at Shenandoah National Park 

11:00am-11:30pm // Bathroom, snacks, and explore the Visitor Center 

11:30am-1:30pm // Hike the Dark Hollow Falls trail 

1:30pm-2:30pm // Have lunch and play by the waterfall 

2:30-3:00pm // Finish the first hike of the day 

3:00pm-3:15pm // Head to campsite

3:15pm-4:15pm // Put up our tents & have activity time

4:15pm-6:00pm // Hike the Bearfence Mountain trail for sunset

6:00pm-6:15pm // Head back to campsite

6:15pm-7:30pm // Campsite cooking for dinner

7:30pm-9:00pm // Clean up dinner, tell stories, make s'mores 

9:00pm-9:30pm // Wind down for bed

Sunday, November 9th - 

6:30am-7:00am // Rise and shine! 

7:00-8:30am // Breakfast, clean up and campsite pack up

8:30am-10:30am // Activity-based lesson and exploration, with Park Ranger at Big Meadows

10:30am-12:30pm // Hike the Hawksbill Loop Trail 

12:30pm-1:30pm // Lunch time! 

1:30pm // Prep and load explorers to head back to drop-off location

4:00pm // Drop-off & parent pick-off
